He released three successive bombs, "The Pink Slug", "The slow Return Of The Pink Slug", and the last, "We're Still Waiting For The Pink Slug".
The first two films saw Bernie Kopell playing the role of the Chief Inspector, but he kept confusing his horrible, affected, French accent with his horrible, affected, German accent. It was a mess.
In the final film, Kopell was, inexplicably, replaced by William Demarest. It was a complete failure. Demarest didn't even attempt an accent. He seemed to be lost in the film, often uttering dialogue from when he was on the "My Three Sons" television program.
As always though, the films made money.

What you didn't realize was that the whole thing was filmed in Turkey where copyright laws don't apply. Turks speaking English with a confused French/ German accent all on a $10000 budget.
Love this! Great image! (And I am a dedicated slug hunter)
