Magnificent Pirate - love this creation. (Ok, maybe not as much as the last one I commented on, but still..) So rich in detail, and texture. Although, I'd lay odds that Teach wasn't as good looking as this portrayal would have us believe. I'm not quite seeing the crazed expression that he'd need to light fuses in his hair. He seems a little too 'upstanding', but as we know, one cannot judge a book by its cover, he may just be slightly sociopathic behind those eyes.

He is, isn't he! 

A big portion of that is Jesse's wonderful LoRA, which is a fine partner in developing engaging character studies.

Many of the *descriptions* of Blackbeard were either second hand or echoes of pure propaganda generated by Teach himself.  What we can rely upon are the accounts of his earlier history and how he grew into Blackbeard.  There we see a skilled naval commander and inspiring leader with a great head for tactics and marketing.

I imagine the whole explosives in the beard bit is a product of fantasy and lore. I agree, though, in this portrait, those are the eyes of a weathered sociopath or a wild visionary with his eyes ever on the prize.

*Just imagine if I'd been a pirate*...Now I've got that idea in my head, it's not going away any time soon! Swash buckling, sword fighting, Douglas Fairbanks Junior and Errol Flynn, perhaps a dash of Burt Lancaster with Johnny Depp's wicked sense of humour all rolled into one - swoon o'clock! (There's a line in there about *being prepared to be boarded* but I can't stop chuckling long enough to flesh it out 😂😂😂)

He sounds like he would have made a great business leader on Wall Street in contemporary times. I detect a level of admiration in your words, which comes through in your portrait, and would probably explain why he looks like someone people would gladly follow.

Blackbeard or Edward Teach (c.1680-1718) is one of the most infamous pirates to have ever lived.

Known for his fearsome image and daring acts on land and sea throughout the West Indies and along the North American East coast, his legacy has been the inspiration for many depictions of pirates throughout history.

Teach inspired fear in those who came face to face with his daunting appearance. With an impressive black beard, Teach reportedly lit fuses in his long hair giving him a crazed and frightening appearance.

Stories of his misdeeds spread and fact and fiction blended into one. Tales of torturing prisoners, even turning on his own crew with no warning were rife and provided the pirate captain with an excellent method of maintaining order. This added to the image of terror and strengthened his position with both his crew and enemies
