The decurional order (in Latin ordo decurionum, literally "order of decurions"), is a Roman social category, as are the senatorial order and the equestrian order). A subordinate order, it concerns not the empire as a whole, but the cities which compose it, and the criteria of fortune and morality[unclear] for admission are lower.
As with the other orders, one had to be registered in the decurional album where one found, at the top of the list, the primores viri often knights who occupied the most important positions. Rich families, whether senatorial or equestrian, often monopolized roles in provincial cities (municipalities).
