I don't believe I watched it, but, yeah, it seems like we're both ancient Britons....

It was made about 1979 by HTV, and set in this remote village in the West Country that has a stone circle, it involves a new resident to the town and his son who investigate spooky goings on involving astrophysics, an ancient cult and some otherworldly entity... this was a children's TV show and despite no sex or gore, it really is quite scary and atmospheric. It is on YouTube and if 70's retro scifi is your thing, worth a gander.
