The three Ursitoare, in Romanian mythology, are supposed to appear three nights after a child's birth to determine the course of its life. They are most similar to the Roman Parcae, the Latin equivalent of the Greek Fates or Moirai.

The Ursitoare are mythical creatures depicted as divine hypostases through which Fate acts. The Ursitoare, also known as urse, trace the biographical moments of newborns, and their determinations cannot be canceled because they act in the name of Fate.

The Crone-Maiden triad corresponds to the threefold feminine hypostasis of the goddess Hecate, conceived as the goddess of all creatures of the earth and the underworld, sometimes good, sometimes evil, sometimes benevolent, sometimes malevolent, sometimes protective, sometimes punishing.

It is a perfect depiction of life, this story was my most loved one in my childhood years. Thank you @Raven_Cat for giving me back long forgotten childhood memories 💕

I was invested in this story…what happened to this baby after they used the sickle?

Oh WOW 😳 This is incredibly good! I really enjoy these folklore stories ❤️

The trinitarian image of Fate in Romanian mythology, as well as the probably trinitarian image of the goddess Bendis among the Thracians, and certainly the trinitarian image of the goddess Hecate among the Greeks, symbolize the same Indo-European mythical substratum of the crossroads of human destiny, of balance and choice.”

Their activity takes place successively during the first three nights after birth. On the first night, the spinner works, assisted by the other two, spinning the thread of life for the newborn, on the second night, the uncoiler uncoils the spun thread on the ball of life, and on the third night, the scythe-cutter cuts the thread of life with a sickle.
