The three Ursitoare, in Romanian mythology, are supposed to appear three nights after a child's birth to determine the course of its life. They are most similar to the Roman Parcae, the Latin equivalent of the Greek Fates or Moirai.
The Ursitoare are mythical creatures depicted as divine hypostases through which Fate acts. The Ursitoare, also known as urse, trace the biographical moments of newborns, and their determinations cannot be canceled because they act in the name of Fate.
The Crone-Maiden triad corresponds to the threefold feminine hypostasis of the goddess Hecate, conceived as the goddess of all creatures of the earth and the underworld, sometimes good, sometimes evil, sometimes benevolent, sometimes malevolent, sometimes protective, sometimes punishing.

Their activity takes place successively during the first three nights after birth. On the first night, the spinner works, assisted by the other two, spinning the thread of life for the newborn, on the second night, the uncoiler uncoils the spun thread on the ball of life, and on the third night, the scythe-cutter cuts the thread of life with a sickle.
