Thank you. The first time I ever saw a photo of one of these bears, I thought they looked odd. Not ugly, just odd. But that's because they're the only short-faced bears species still around. The last  of the other short-faced bear species went extinct around the time of the mass extinction of mega-fauna in North America.

So rarely seeing these bears and then generally only from the front, a profile shot didn't look right. But it's what we get used to really. When I was young, the first time I saw a cheetah, they looked misshapen to me and I now think they're beautiful. So the same has happened with how I see this bear. Their gentle nature (if not provoked) has really won me over though.
