The early morning mist clung gently to the water’s surface as the sun cast its first rays over the horizon, painting the sky in soft hues of rose and amber. The Kootenai brave had back paddled his birchbark canoe against the reed bank, the rhythmic dip and pull of his oar creating ripples that disturbed the glass-like calm of the lake.
