Grand Magus Eldrin studied the young woman before him, her hands steady as she traced the runes in the air. “Good,” he murmured. “Again.”

Selene inhaled deeply, her fingers glowing faintly as the symbols pulsed. A whisper of wind curled around them, responding to her call.

“You are attuned to the magic of the Ancients,” Eldrin said, closing the tome in his lap. “But power alone is dangerous. Control, wisdom—those you must earn.”

Selene met his gaze, determination burning in her dark eyes. “Then teach me, Master Eldrin. I will prove myself.”

A flicker of approval passed through the old mage’s expression. “Very well, apprentice. Let us begin.”
