Thats terrible,  i know here they are on the verge of extinction.  The curlew that is .

I didn't realise that whimbrel are also curlews or that the Eurasian Curlew was almost extinct in Ireland. They may well be now as I don't know enough. The IUCN lists it as Near Threatened in other parts of its range with numbers declining quite quickly. There are nine separate species of curlews and five are either Extinct to Near Threatened. 🤬 Stone-curlews are entirely different birds. Animal and plant names are SO confusing!

# The slender-billed curlew has been officially declared extinct this month, Oct 2025. Efforts were conducted to find any but the last sighting was made mid 1990. The destruction of our beautiful planet , our home, is picking up speed and continues to accelerate. ☹️😥
