Chapter 9 -- Fight and Flight ; Part five

Dath sent a message to Gavin as the companions rode out of Bethmüda unhindered. Most of the Obsidian followed, abandoning their house and caverns. A few stayed behind to maintain their ships and trade. Dannyl accompanied Dath. They rode hard that first day, stopping for the night in a small town. Dath left his comrades and slipped into a seedy tavern. There, at a table in a dark corner, Gavin waited. Dath sat, studying the assassin for a moment before speaking. "Why didn't you tell us there was an assassin hideout in Bethmüda?" He asked. Gavin sneered. "You didn't ask." He said, then his voice softened. "How fares Kedemar?" Dath regarded him, anger simmering in his chest. He narrowed his eyes at the man, a suspicion forming in his mind. "Stars!" He breathed after a moment, his eyes widening. "You're the lad's... father?!" Sat dumbstruck as the assassin nodded woefully. "Don't tell him." He pleaded. Dath surged to his feet and stormed from the tavern, too angry to answer.
