Cape fur seals Arctocephalus pusillus pusillus.
The island in the middle of Table Bay was named by Dutch sailors after the enormous colonies of Cape fur seals (robben or zeehonden [sea dogs] in Dutch).
Robben island later became better known for its penal colony rather than seal colonies.
A very similar subspeces A. p. doriferus is found along Australia's Victorian coast and Tasmania, the main differences being that doriferus is slightly smaller and prey mostly on squid, where pusillus eats mostly fish (source: the Two Oceans Aquarium).
This image shows Cape fur seals basking on the rocky shores of Robben Island, with Cape Town's iconic Table Mountain visible in the distance. The scene is rendered with earthy tones and dramatic lighting.
