The Final Farewell

She stood in front of the coffin. She felt numb, as if she was watching someone else’s life unfold before her eyes. She couldn’t believe that her grandmother was gone, the woman who had always been there for her.

She remembered the last time they had spoken, a week ago. She had sounded so cheerful and lively, as if nothing was wrong. She had told her how proud she was of her, how much she loved her, how much she missed her.

She was too busy with work, with friends, with life. She never thought that this would be the last time she would hear her voice, the last time she would say “I love you”, the last time she would hug her.

She regretted it so much. She wished she could turn back time, to say goodbye properly, to thank her for everything. But it was too late. She was gone, and she would never see her again.

She felt a tear roll down her cheek, and then another, and another. She sobbed quietly, letting out all the pain and sorrow that had been building up inside her.
