There was a reception in the village square. Tables were set up and Widow Palfrey and her friends made light refreshments and Messrs Kite and Henderson, the proprietors of the Black Labrador provided a cask of ale and wine each.
A line of villagers formed to meet the newcomers. Many shook hands with the team; A lot of women went up to Sister Helena asking for prayers.
“God bless you, Sir,” said one villager to Larkin.
“Will you pray for me and my husband, Sister?” One woman asked. “We aren't seeing eye to eye.”

Minor thing on the image . . . would have been even better if he'd been looking the person in the eye while shaking hands

“You're welcome and I'll remember you and your husband in my prayers,” the Carmelite replied.
