s’empareraient d’elle et que ça serait fini une fois pour toutes.



2_ Elle parlait dru comme elle avait appris dans Paris à parler au marché du Temple comme brocanteuse avec sa mère à elle, 
dans sa petite jeunesse... Elle venait d’un temps où le petit peuple n’avait pas encore appris à s’écouter vieillir.

3_ ... ils voulaient savoir si je pouvais pas la faire tenir tranquille la vieille rien qu’avec des médicaments... Mais ce qu’
ils désiraient encore plus, au fond (elle surtout, la bru), c’est que je la fasse interner la vieille une fois pour toutes...
Quand nous eûmes frappé pendant une bonne demi-heure à sa porte, elle a fini par ouvrir d’un seul coup et je 
l’ai eue là, devant moi, avec ses yeux bordés de sérosités roses. 
Mais son regard dansait bien guilleret quand même au-dessus de ses joues tapées et bises, un regard qui vous prenait 
l’attention et vous faisait oublier le reste, à cause du plaisir léger 
qu’il vous donnait malgré
soi et qu’on cherchait à retenir après en soi d’instinct, la jeunesse.
