He's brilliant at his job and always has the "use-ability" factor in mind when thinking about the actors who will be working in and around the set pieces. Once, an actor nearly slid  off a kitchen countertop that he'd designed which was way too slippy under the (very short) silken nylon shorts he was wearing at the time. Luckily the actor hung on and finished the scene on that occasion. The same evening, the stage designer applied a transparent non-slip paint product to the countertop and nothing slid, shorts or other garments for the shows remaining 42 day run.
