It's a little known fact that Ms. Davis wrote the catchy ditty during the short breathing break between cigarette 89 and 90 on that particular Thursday mid-afternoon in Tupelo, Mississippi. She'd often call upon her distant cousins Vester and Vernon whilst shopping for sparkly costume jewelry in thrift shops around the Tupelo environs. Minnie-Mae made the most delicious Moonshine-themed afternoon tea which she found useful for numbing her throat after a busy day of heavy smoking.
