Vachellia xanthophloea trees grow abundantly in malaria-endemic areas.
Probably because their pale yellow-green bark make these trees so distinctive, their association with the potentially fatal illness was noted before anyone realised what caused malaria and that it was transmitted by mosquitos.
One theory proposed that it was caused by these trees, hence the name.
This image shows a distinctive Fever Tree with pale yellow-green bark in an African bushveld setting, rendered in a psychedelic op-art style with a large canopy and sparse foliage.

Very good. Fascinating history and often the case where associations are made without current understanding
