Marcel Duchamp

Marcel Duchamp (Henri-Robert-Marcel Duchamp; 1887 – 1968) was a French artist who became a pivotal figure in the development of 20th-century avant-garde art. His art style is characterised by its conceptual approach, often challenging traditional notions of art through the use of ready-mades (ordinary objects presented as art). Duchamp primarily used mixed media, including found objects, and employed techniques that emphasised ideas over aesthetic concerns. His work is associated with several key art movements, including Dada and Surrealism, where he played a critical role in questioning and expanding the boundaries of what art could be, influencing generations of artists to come.
