The Revolt

Flames licked the cane, smoke weaving faces of rage and memory. We rose like embers, bodies alight with revolt, our garments catching sparks as if the earth itself had ignited for our freedom. Every defiant heartbeat echoed in metal and ash. They had bound us, but they could not bind the fire that carried our fury, our grief, our unyielding refusal to be erased.
