This is an AI update of a digital image I used as the frontispiece to a 5k-word research article about the history of AIDS entitled "AIDS Patient Zero". Turns out there was no "zero" but it was the letter "O" (for "origin") and even that was wrong. Genetic testing tells us the HIV virus can be tracked all the way back to the earliest part of the 17th Century. Regardless, it was the horror of the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s that the titular piece was meant to embody. Sleep well . . .
