Paprika didn't have time to react. She was sprinting through the valley, the wind rushing past her ears, her focus set on escape. Her misplaced attention caused her to plunge straight into a thick cloud of green mist. It swallowed her whole.
She gasped. That was a mistake.
As the mist filled her lungs, a strange sensation overcame her. Her vision blurred. The world around her appeared to warp at its edges. The trees began to stretch, their trunks twisting in ways that defied nature. The bioluminescent plants pulsed like beating hearts.
Paprika stumbled, her legs suddenly heavy. Her thoughts tangled, slipping from her grasp like water through her paws. What was this? Her breath quickened, but the more she inhaled, the deeper the sensation took hold.
She wasn’t just lost in the mist—she was trapped inside it.
