Reminds me of the character in a book i once read. The character became part of the magical tree in exchange for giving her life and her magic to the tree. I can't remember who wrote the book or what the series was even called. I want to say it was Terry Brooks who wrote the series. Shannara? One of the many books he wrote about Shannara.
