Rare Dogs Tuesday #2: Chinook
A dog breed originated in New Hampshire, first bred by Arthur Treadwell Walden inspired by an eponymous dog owned by his Eskimo companion in an expedition to the Yukon. They are non-aggressive, easy to train, and used regularly for sled competitions.
Now, the three young lads you see are Chinook (formerly Rikki), Hootichinoo (formerly Tikki), and Tavi, the sons of the first ever Chinook dog who actually existed in real life. Their names were chosen by Walden's wife Katherine Sleeper, one of the first female journalists in Massachusetts, after the Jungle Book.
United by a bond stronger than humans can understand, these three love staring at the sun rise every morning.

This image shows three Chinook dogs in a snowy New Hampshire landscape, reminiscent of a vintage photograph from the early 1900s. The dogs are looking up towards the sun.
