Passing by a fountain, she could not help but smile at the three small feline children who, despite their usual aversion to water, were frolicking in the chest-deep waters without a care in the world. As she watched them splash and play, a memory flashed to the forefront of her mind of a time when she, too, once enjoyed those cool waters.

How Mika wished she could join them.

Of course, despite her short stature, she was much too tall to be paddling around in a small fountain. Perhaps if she went to a larger one—

No; she was too old for that now.

“C’mon out!” their mother called with a deceptively cheerful tone.

Mika could not help but smile at the familiar sound of high-pitched pleas which, to their dismay, fell on deaf ears.

“I said out.”
