The weight of being seen for so long. The freedom of not being readable in this moment.
The ache of knowing she had wanted this and resisted it at once.
The strange comfort of the veil—not as a hiding place, but as a space that belonged to no one else.

She sat down on the floor, pulled her knees up, and let the tears fall quietly into the cloth. ...

Or am I finally allowed to be just mine?

There were no answers that night. But there was stillness.
And sometimes, stillness is the first form of truth.

She stayed like that for a long while—no mask of expression, no performance of composure. Just breath. Just fabric. Just her. ...

Not loud. Not demanding. But still there.
What would it feel like—not just to cover, but to disappear gently from the gaze of the world?

She walked to her bedroom and opened the second drawer. Folded beneath her scarves lay a simple black niqab. No decoration. No embellishment. Just two layers of lightweight cloth—one to tie behind the head, one to fall over the lower face.

She had ordered it weeks ago. Not with a decision. Just… with the idea that maybe someday she’d need to hold it in her hands.
