I have two things in my life to be thankful for.  God and my Golden Retriever, Bear (ᏲᎾ- yona in my native Cherokee language.)

That is so wonderfull because I have a guide who is a golden retriever (not a canine, more a sea being) and he is from the Great Bear Constillation. He came to me when I remembered my childhood lesson from a very tall Native American.  He led me to a rod which belonged to the Hopi Tribe.  What does yona mean please? 😃 

ᏲᎾ (yona) is the Cherokee word for Bear.  The Great Bear Constellation, Ursa Majoris, has many spectacular things besides just the Asterism, the Big Dipper.  There is a variable star, W Ursae Majoris that was part of my observations for a MS Astronomy Course I took at Swinburne University of Technology in Australia (remote studies) and my observations of that star, which is really an eclipsing binary  pair of stars along with delta Cephei, a true variable star were my project that semester and the data is logged into the AAVSO which I am a member of.  Native Americans on the whole have a spiritually bound connection to nature and Astronomy that are so much stronger that others.  The Cherokee tribe is trying its best to prevent the loss of language, stories, myths, beliefs, and identity.  The Trail of Tears was one of the most inhuman things ever done by those immigrating from other countries.
