I just must avoid his terrifying glance.

The second night, god, how horrific it was.
The coffin raised in the air, was smashing itself in the holy circle.
She was staying there straight with the deathly glare,
Was screaming the curses along with Satan.

In your kingship, please, spare me, Lord.
At the third night, I was trying to keep my faith strong.
She called for imps, they brought terrible Viy.
Few minutes before the sunrise, I was killed

By an evil witch I was ambushed, 
She's on my back, I'm riding fast through woods.
One day seeking a place to stay for the night, 
I found an alone hut, it was a witch's trap.

I was mumbling all prayers I had known.
It drained all strength of the evil force.
Hit her with a cadgel few times
And clinging for the life I rushed outside.

Rumors are wandering around the seminary dorm - 
A sotnik's daughter died one day ago.
A rector said, - I send you there.
Will baptize her for 3 days in the village church.

Cossacks prevented me from escape.
I already see smoke from small huts' chimneys.
For next 3 nights straight, I have to read prayers.
Oh Lord, protect my soul, I'm asking for your blessings.
