In fact, i did not really of an "European" alley but more of something medieval ... and the notion of Medieval Ages is quite mostly European (not a lot of town in America at that Time 😉, and no equivalent to the Great Plague epidemic).
Note : in fact, the well known Plague Doctor costume with the beaked mask is more something of the 16th century, but the first great crisis due to Plague were in the medieval era
