This musical opened on London's West End in 1985 then transferred to Broadway in 1988. It is the longest running show in Broadway history & celebrated it's 10,000th performance on Feb 11, 2012.
It won 7 Tonys (inclucing Best Musical) & 7 Drama Desk Awards.
I saw it in 1989 in Los Angeles. Michael Crawford & the musical were extraordinary. I recommend seeing it whenever you can.
