The Rubik's Cube #1

Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture, Ernő Rubik, invented The Rubik's Cube in 1974. Originally called the Magic Cube, it's name changed to The Rubik's Cube when licensed to be sold as a puzzle toy.

By January 2024 around 500 million had been sold (according to Wikipedia). It won many awards and was inducted into the US National Toy Hall of Fame in 2014.

It became a huge craze in the 80s spawning speed-solving contests and the writing of many books on how to solve it.

Back in the 80s, as I came to the end of high school I tried and tried but could never quite solve it. Ultimately the final moves to maneuvre the the final corners were shown to me.

Some years ago I came across an old cube. I was again hooked, changed my strategy, and was eventually able to say that I solved the cube (even if my method took much perseverance and would never win a speed-solving contest).

Be that as it may, I feel proud to say I did finally solve it!
