Streets overflowed with paper money, more plentiful than bread, softer than dust. Wheelbarrows tipped their loads into the gutter, while behind shuttered doors, low voices plotted futures in amber-lit halls. Fire swirled in the night air, its glow catching the useless notes as they lifted, briefly beautiful, before falling.
