The Nostromo's crew is about truckers in space. In the original script the characters were gender neutral, with Ripley to be taken for granted as male.
"Alien" is much darker than many realize. When Sigourney Weaver took on the role as Ripley, Veronica Cartwright became a transwomen in lieu: For they had a small daughter. In a touching prologue scene, with pre-travel shorter hair, they contemplate about taking on this cryosleep job, missing out on their kid to grow up. But they needed the money that was also used for their daughter growing up more comfortably, while they were absent in deep space.
The alien species is a lot about violating bodies and in connection with their way of parasitical procreation. Thus, Lambert became the dramatic antipole to male Kane (John Hurt), "giving birth" to a chestbuster. In her death scene, it is suggested that she gets violated by the alien, which is comfirmed by a bloody crotch in the horror video game "Alien Isolation". (continued in comments)

4: The reality behind this: Everything is true. Save one thing, you guessed it: This one scene depicted here was never filmed. The others were.
- It is a shame though that the directors weren't allowed to discuss these dark sinister topics openly, plus deleting this vital first scene, as it would have intensified the horrors, the emotional impact for Ripley and the audience, plus enhancing the vibe of living in a future not only with spaceshios, but also as a society.
2: However, director James Cameron snuck in a brief frame of the profile of Lambert as among the profiles shown as recorded by the company of the Nostromo's deceased crew members. In this profile Lambert's transsexual status is dicussed at relativ great length. You just need a freeze frame and good enough home video equipment to read it. Which people realized fully only later with the emergence of DVD, Blue-Ray and bigger TV-screens than available in the late 80s. Also the third and fourth parts of the franchise descended into the subjects of pregnancy and bisexuality for Ripley and Ripley 8.
1: However, in 1979 the producers were barely "tricked" into allowing a female lead in an action horror movie. They were not prepared for transsexual family planning in a lesbian relationship. Thus, this scene was cut. Also cut was a scene in the sequel with archive material on Ripley's in the meanwhile adult and now dead daughter. This scene was restored to the Director's Cut.

Very interesting, thank you for the informations! I love the first three Alien films, but I mostly just watch the movies and don't really look into the production background. That's very interesting.
