“The Boy Who Named the Moon”

That’s what we called him—Jamie. Said his dog, Barkley, could howl at just the right pitch to make the moon blink. Every evening after supper, they’d sit on the porch like this, Barkley’s head nestled under Jamie’s hand, both watching the stars wake up. Barkley passed the week Jamie turned twelve, and the moon didn’t blink that night. Just watched silently.

Now, decades later, someone still holds that photo like a sacred page from a forgotten chapter.
