“Commander, they don't know about metric,” said Fairbairn. She spent a lot of time in the Chambers Street Museum in Edinburgh and learned about Medieval measurements. “For them a meter is about a yard.”
“Thank you, Squadron Leader,” McClendon said. He turned back to Simon and the council. “We would like to clear an area of thirty yards around the village. It will help us have a clear light of sight if the Lady's troops attack the village.”
“She has troops?” Simon asked.

Larkin grimly nodded. “She does. They're called Jaffa—Teal’c’s people. Many of them are free these days, but many are still loyal to and serve the Goa'uld.”
“I see,” Simon said.
“And you can't negotiate with them either. They will not hesitate to kill every single man, woman and child in Eversham,” Fairbairn put in.
“How will you accomplish this? The vegetation around the village is dense. It would take your men many days to complete the task,” a council member asked.
“We have machines that can do the work in a day. Machines that do not require the need of horses,” said McClendon.
“By St. Loy!” exclaimed Simon
“I must stress that our machines are not magic or witchcraft. They are just that—Machines, We can show them to you and the villagers,” said Helena.
