Emily Carr (1871–1945) was a Canadian painter and writer known for her powerful depictions of the landscapes and Indigenous cultures of British Columbia. A pioneering modernist in Canada, she was deeply influenced by the forests, coastal scenery, and First Nations totem poles of the Pacific Northwest. Initially underappreciated, her work gained recognition later in life as she became associated with the Group of Seven, though she maintained her distinct artistic voice. (OpenAI, 2025)
