It wasn't unusual for a London home in the 19th-century to have a modern convenience, a toilet, in a first floor closeted room. But...they often opened straight into the basement.... and when sufficient levels of muck and stench filled the home, these gents were called in for removal.
No wonder the late 19th-century is known as the beginning of the modern era...
(even Neanderthals knew enough to have a middens placed far outside their living space, because, HELLO!!!, contaminants! What is wrong with modern humans?????)

You need to stop watching the History Channel
Getting to the breakerbox when a fuse flipped was MURDER.
The problem is I can't believe a word of any of this. Unless you actually lived in London in the late 19thC and physically shovelled out your own basement, or that of someone elses, anything you are saying is conjecture with the intention to make ha-ha of the people that are no longer here to collaborate your story
Oh for the days of good, honest toil and sacrifice (although I wouldn't strike a match if I were them 💥)
The trouble with modern humans is they're becoming less human. Just look at the state of the world now.
These boys are ready for a pint at the local pub

A never-aired SNL skit featuring Kevin Nealon and Dan Aykroyd. During the dress rehearsals.... yep, .you guessed it... Cholera!
