She didn’t breathe like a human anymore. Each inhale cut sharp, her senses alive with the copper tang of blood and the frantic rhythm of a dying heart somewhere ahead. Neon dripped off the wet pavement, painting her pale skin in fractured colors as the beast within her stirred, claws pressing against the edges of her flesh.

Her lips pulled into a grin — sharp, feral, inevitable. The katana thrummed in her grip, alive, hungry. Somewhere in the shadows, someone exhaled too loudly.
