Garnet walked down the stairs to the second tier of the deck, feeling the air gummy in her chest, a sticky sweet smell in her noise.
She could smell, almost taste beneath the flowers and chocolate, the chemicals. The pesticides and fertilizers used to keep the garden lush, living.
Garnet looked up at the sky and could see faint smudges against the red. Enormous birds dipped and spun, dancing high in the night sky.
