Opheus was a thracian bard, notable in greek mythology. It is told he was son of Apollo or Oeagrus and one of the muses, Calliope. According to the legends, when he played his lyre, the beasts calm down and the men gathered to hear him. He was in love with Eurydice (a nymph or in some version a thracian woman), when she past away, Oprheus descendent to the underworld to resucite her, he manage to calm down Cerberus with his lyre music, the rescue of Eurydice ended in tragedy. Later Orpheus died in hands of the Dionysus's bacchants. In honor to Orpheus there was held the Orphic mysteries/Orphism, based on the initiation rituals of ancient Greece, wich ones there is not much information available and sources.
