The Italian couple gave me a short tour of some of their garden. He was a consummate gardener back in Italy and couldn't grow all that he would've liked to here. He did his own grafting and showed me a tree that had four different kinds of fruit, although all closely related. Not four different varieties of the same fruit but different kinds!! People like them are a rarity here. They might be in Italy too now. I don't think anyone who doesn't live plants will put much effort into gardening now. Too easy to buy from grocery stores even if the quality is sub-par. They likely don't know how fruits or vegetables really are meant to taste. Sorry, but I have a rather cynical view of people, especially during winter doldrums,
I learned first hand about Albizia julibrissin over 25 years back. I was taking a slightly different route through our town when I saw the loveliest tree I had seen in years. I parked on the road allowance and went to the house to ask. The most delightful older Italian couple came out to talk. Apparently, they brought some seeds over from Italy to start them. While the trees were still only a few years old, when winter would be close, they brought them inside as the trees were still too tender. If the few they had started, one was more hardy and they deemed it strong enough to plant in the ground. Honestly, I felt transported by the scent of the flowers - not a heavy fragrance but one that spoke to me of a sunny exotic place. They explained that the tree is the last to leaf out and the first to drop its leaves. It's only borderline hardy here. I heard of one other tree in our town but during one colder winter, it was killed outright. βΉοΈ
I thought this might've been yours! It speaks of someone with a greater knowledge of Africa than most have. I wondered why it was done on what I thought was note paper but now that I read your prompt I understand. If you can forgive me saying it, but I do think it would've been nicer without the effects of the vertical lines. Curious - what kind of Albizia trees? The one I'm familiar with is Albizia julibrissin..
