One interesting thing that hosting this challenge has taught me thus far is that most such non-humanoid beings are MUCH easier to describe using words than images. Consider e.g. a surveillance and data analysis system that gains consciousness/life b/c it's function is to understand the world it observes, a living river, or any organization that to us seems "static" or just "too different" (a living box), where activity is distributed (perhaps across vastly different spatiotemporal scales than what we humans have an easy time - or are even able to - relate to. For the next challenge I try to combat this by making us focus on floral beings:
