Luminiscence was known long long long ago around the world and the chinese were the first to record its use in writing more than a thousand years ago, though phosphorus itself was "discovered" by boiling pee by some german in the 1600s. Fang is the first woman alchemist recorded in history and lived some 2100 years ago, at a time where the first fireworks are supposed to be common in China. I like to imagine her discovering luminiscence and using it to tell thrilling stories at night to bewildered children.

A glowing alchemist's discovery of phosphorus is depicted in this image. The artwork evokes early alchemical illustration with a touch of expressionism and golden age painting techniques.
