Lana took the mask into her hands. It was soft, double-layered cotton, with delicate seams. She held it against her face for a second.

“I think I’ll try it. Just in places that feel loud.”

“Good.” Sina grinned. “It’s not about hiding. It’s about choosing what you show.” ... 

... One Month Later

“I feel invisible,” Lana said, eyes peeking out over her mask, voice slightly muffled.

“And do you like it?”

“I love it,” she breathed. “You know what it’s like to be introverted and a woman in public? The world expects your warmth. Your attention. Your smile. This—this is mine. My space.”

Sina looked at her fondly. “You’re becoming yourself, Lana.”

Lana nodded. “I’m not performing anymore. I can walk through the world without giving pieces of myself away.”

“You’re like a wrapped gift.”

“And those who deserve to know me… they’ll wait to open it.” ...

... “Do you think people will judge me?”

“Some will. But more will respect you. And the ones who love you—like me—will see your courage.”

Two Weeks Later

They met again, same café, same corner table.

Sina’s eyes lit up as she saw her friend. Lana wore a white hijab, draped securely, framing her face.

“You did it,” Sina whispered, almost in awe.

“I did.” Lana’s smile was small but radiant. “And I feel... peaceful.”

“Tell me everything.”

Lana leaned in. “The first day, I felt like everyone was staring. But maybe they weren’t. Maybe I was just suddenly aware. I walked slower. I looked at my feet. But by day three—Sina, it was like something shifted.”
