The councilors exchanged glances as I took my seat beside him, placing my long, thick raven hair in front of me as a custom. Lord Thorne, the kingdom’s most trusted advisor, cleared his throat. “We’ve been discussing the proposed alliance with the neighboring kingdom of Serathia. There are concerns regarding the terms of trade and security.”
“Concerns that we’ve addressed before,” I interjected, surprising myself with the firmness in my voice. “What’s changed?”
Lord Thorne raised an eyebrow, clearly taken aback by my interruption. “Your insight is appreciated, Princess, but these matters are delicate and require careful consideration.”

“Of course,” I said, forcing a polite smile. “But if we’re to be allies, shouldn’t we ensure the terms are truly beneficial for both sides? I’ve seen how Serathia’s forces operate; their strategies are aggressive.”
The room fell silent, and all eyes were on me. My father’s gaze was steady, but there was a flicker of approval in his eyes that I caught before he masked it. “You make a valid point, Elara,” he said finally. “Perhaps we should reconsider some aspects of the proposal.”
A murmur of agreement rippled through the council. I sat back, feeling a mix of satisfaction and frustration. Even when I tried to use my warrior’s perspective, it seemed I was still confined by the constraints of my title.
