That day the square was filled with cheer, Amidst the wandering crowd so near, An old man was walking with crazy eyes And selling the gray locks with a low price.
I grew curious about where The old man got these hair. Around the square I followed in his wake, While to the people, the madman was saying a phrase:
- Hey, all people here! Come look at what I've got! Buy some grayness before your youth is all for naught!
I bought a lock, the seller slipped away, And all around me the world did sway: Those who had mocked the crazed old man Now aged before me as their life began to wan!
The people grayed and skin grew slack, They turned to skeletons in a macabre pack, Their dry flesh no longer clung to bones, And people crumbled into dust with muffled groans!
