Abbas Ibn Firnas (9th Century, Andalusia) A polymath from the Islamic Golden Age, Abbas Ibn Firnas is credited with one of the earliest attempts at human flight. In the 9th century, he designed and tested a glider-like apparatus. Though he managed to glide briefly, his design lacked stability, leading to a hard landing. His efforts, however, inspired later generations and are considered a foundational moment in early aviation.
