The Stormcore-class consists of specialized destroyer armed with a single massive ion cannon, designed to cripple capital ships with precision energy strikes. Though seemingly vulnerable to strike-craft, its cannon discharge generates excess energy that is collected and expelled as a localized EMP shockwave, scrambling all electronics within range. During the Siege of Virex Gate, a Stormcore unit fired and destroyed a Thalassan battlecruiser and disabled more than 50 fighters with its secondary pulse, leaving enemy ships adrift and blind.
