This masculine moniker was originally an Old English habitational surname from Essex and Norfolk. Consisting of two elements, ryge meaning “rye” and dun signifying “hill,” it translates to “rye hill.” And Halsey Royden, an accomplished mathematician.

Strange coincidence - my Welsh name - although I am an - old - guy is Brynley "burnt meadow" or "burnt clearing".   Royden - are you related - or a math guru?   Feel free not to respond - I shouldn't be interrupting your art - which I have a feeling I read somewhere is based on mathematics - though I can't for the life of me understand how.   Happy hols!
