In successive versions of my prompt, I kept looking for ways to make it clear to the AI that I wanted the lady's clothes to look elaborately futuristic, with different shades and materials mixed together in unusual ways, instead of her basically wearing "a solid blue dress" or "a solid blue jumpsuit," for instance.

I was aiming for a *gray-skinned* alien princess, but the AI kept refusing to give me that color of skin, no matter how I weighted things in my prompts. I finally gave up. I gave her the face of Italian actress Ornella Muti, and perhaps that has something to do with why the AI (in various models) refused to take the "gray skin" part seriously?
