Here is my Amazon review of Yefremov's science fiction novel "Andromeda, a space-age tale." It's refreshing to read a science fiction book that presents a positive view of the future, rather than the doom and gloom and negativity that's so fashionable now days. I first heard of Yefremov when I was working on the Wikipedia article on science fiction and ordered the book out of curiosity. The author seems to have been a sincere believer in Marxism and the story takes place in the theoretical communist world which is predicted after the fall of capitalism, several hundred years from now. But, unlike what I had expected, it's not propaganda but serious and thoughtful speculation about what life would be for real people in a Utopian society. I don't want to give more details, but many things will surprise you. Star Trek fans will also be interested since Yefremov's work seems to be, in part, the inspiration for their fictional future.
